NASA’s Lucy spacecraft has been launched to study asteroids known as the remains of the Solar System. Lucy set out to target asteroid clusters located in Jupiter’s orbit.
The Atlas-5 rocket was launched from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Saturday, October 16 at 3.03 Indian time. The spacecraft will be explored for more than 12 years. During this time, the spacecraft will visit seven Trojans.

- Lucy travels 400 km near eight asteroids (one is the main belt between Mars and Jupiter, and seven are Trojan asteroids).
- Measure the structure, mass, and density of asteroids
- Mission period – 12 years The project is named after Lucy, a human fossil who provided groundbreaking evidence for the evolution of the human race. Lucy will have to travel more than 65 million kilometers to study the Trojans located in Jupiter’s orbit with both sides of the Sun.
