Betelgeuse is a star that represents the shoulder of a hunter named Orion. This is a red giant star. It is said to be 1400 times the size of the Sun. That is, if Betelgeuse is brought in place of the Sun, the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and asteroids will go into it. It is estimated to be about 640 light-years from Earth. In English it is called Betelgeuse. The name is derived from the Arabic word الجوزاء (Ibṭ al-Jauzā).
