The mission lead is former NASA astronaut Peggy Whiteson. John Shoffner is the mission pilot. Ali Akharni and Rayyana Barnawi from Saudi Arabia are the mission specialists for the AX-2 mission.

Born in Jeddah in 1988, Rayyana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Otago, New Zealand and a Master’s degree from Al-Faisal University.
