The image shows an obsolete, outdated nickel-hydrogen battery wrapped around a used battery and ejected into space by its robotic arms. During the previous multiple space walks, the old three batteries were replaced and a new lithium-ion battery was installed.

This old battery-filled pallet (weight 2.9ton) will burn up and disappear on its own within two to four years of orbit around the Earth.
