LAMOST J0240 + 1952 – The fastest rotating star

When the Earth takes 24 hours to rotate once, the white dwarf star LAMOST J0240 + 1952 rotates once in just * 25 seconds *.

At a distance of 2,000 light-years, once every 25 seconds, LAMOST J0240 + 1952 became the fastest dwarf star in existence. This speed is due to its attraction to another red dwarf star located in the constellation Aries.

The star was discovered on the night of August 7, 2021, by Ingrid Pellisoli, an astronomer at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England.
