Lunar Crater Radio Telescope (LCRT)

NASA has begun work on building the Ultra-Long Wavelength Radio Telescope in a crater about 1 km in diameter on the Moon’s surface.

Compared to Earth telescopes, a lunar telescope has some special advantages. The major problems facing telescopes on Earth are the interference between the Earth’s moons and the Sun, as well as the large interference between the Earth’s radio signals and the Earth’s ionosphere. But a telescope on the moon would be free of these interferences.
