White Greenland and Green Iceland!


What are these names like?

Greenland for a place that is always snowy and white, and Iceland for a place with good greenery.

A Norwegian seafarer named Floki went to the island with his family and livestock and settled on its western side.
One spring, he climbed a hill to check the weather. There the ice was seen floating under the water, hence the name of the island was changed to Iceland.

The old name was Snæland or snow land

Eric the Red set sail from Iceland to find land in the northwest.
After settling there, he named the place Attractive Grfnland (Greenland) to accommodate more people there.

Greenland’s first name was Kalaallit Nunaat.
