Researchers have discovered for the first time fluorescent frogs that glow in the dark.

Fluorescent frogs were found in the Amazon rainforest of Argentina. Researchers at the Bernardino Rivadavia Museum of Natural Sciences are behind the discovery. During a study of the specific color scheme of the spotted frogs (polka-dot tree frog) commonly found in these areas, the researchers accidentally discovered the feature of these frogs glowing in the dark.

Fluorescence is the phenomenon of emitting a longer wavelength of light after absorbing light or other electromagnetic waves. This feature is rarely seen in terrestrial organisms.

These frogs, which have brown skin and pale brown spots in normal light, appear bright green in ultraviolet light. The researchers found that the fluorescent phenomenon was caused by certain secretions released by these frogs.
